The key to making a beautiful photograph remains making the gentle curves of a woman’s breast artistically interesting. Whether it be a 3D pinup from the latest Playboy magazine or a custom order boudoir photograph of an amateur design is everything. The new world of stereo nude photography is really just an extension of the nude photography of the past. As one technique builds on another a new art form emerges thanks mostly to new technologies and the trained eye of the photographer. Who must in fact still perform simple tests to determine the perfect aperture to use in different situations to achieve the image he or she visualizes in their mind.
A wealth of information is available via the web that can provide a good basic training for stereoscopic 3D photography techniques. You can use this information to develop the best tool chest of 3D photographic equipment to branch out into this new category of photography. Before you can really achieve your goals for photographing 3D nudes for any project be it bikini, lingerie, fetish, boudoir, or even erotic in nature you will have to know how to handle many things all at once. The first and most important thing the 3D nude photographer should do is know what you want to achieve with the photo shoot. What is your vision? Do some research and have a story board or a journal of ideas to pull from as you work with the model. Look for inspiring images that you think you can incorporate to achieve the look you want. Try to imagine 2D images in 3D and think of what that will add to silhouettes of a nudes arms, legs or even her butt.
You will be creating a visual composition that will jump of the page in a whole new way for most viewers. When shooting photos of beautiful naked models it’s easy to get distracted especially when you are using a new technique like stereoscopic photography so it is a good practice you have your research notes close by at all times.
You must make you subject comfortable when working with nude or semi-nude models. If they are not comfortable it will show through the image. Music helps set the right tone but make sure it fits the photo shoot and doesn’t take away from the mood.
Lighting is just as important with 3D photo shoots as it is when using 2D cameras. Concentrate on making the lighting perfect for your 3D effect not a convention photograph. This will take some practice but will be well worth the effort. If outside generally you’ll find the early morning and evening light creates the most dramatic photographs whether they be stereo or standard.
